Sia Kathe Isobelle Furler, was born December 18, 1975 in Adelaide. Her parents are both artists and her father is a musician. Adelaide High School was her first choice and she soon began to consider music as a career. She was a huge fan of Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin in her early years.


Sia started her professional music career in the mid-90s when she joined Crisp, an acid-jazz group. Before the band’s dissolution in 1997, Sia was a contributor to two albums. Then, she released OnlySee. However, the album did not reach a large audience.

Sia moved to London in 2000, where she was hired as a background singer by Jamiroquai. She also collaborated with Zero 7. Her career grew significantly when she signed a deal with Dance Pool, a sub-label under Sony. Healing Is Difficult was released quickly and Sia’s second album did well. She was dissatisfied with the way her manager promoted the album and left Sony to sign for a subsidiary of Universal Music Group.
