Rakesh Tikait was born in Sisauli, Mujaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh), India, on the 4th of June 1969. His father Mahendra Singh Tikait, a farmer leader, was also the co-founder and first president of BKU. Baljori Devi, his mother was a housewife.
Career
Rakesh began his career in 1992 as a Delhi Police Department officer. Later, he quit this job at the Delhi farmer’s protest of 1993-1994. He soon left his job and joined the farmer’s demonstration as a member in good standing of the father’s farmers union, BKU. He joined the BKU union in 2011 following the death of Mahendra Singh Tikait. He soon became the spokesperson for the Bharatiya Kisan Union.
Rakesh was also a candidate for the election to the UP assembly on a ticket from Indian National Congress from Khatauli, but was unable win the election and ended up in sixth place.
Rakesh again ran for the Lok Sabha Election on the ticket of Rashtriya Lok Dal, Amroha Lok Sabha Constituency. However, he was unable secure even 1%.
