After Madden was hurt during his rookie season with the Philadelphia Eagles, he began to watch films about teaching and football. He earned a degree as a teacher, and his passion for football merged with his love of teaching.
Madden was a coach at SDSU under Don Coryell. Madden credits Don Coryell with having an influence on his coaching. He hopes that one day he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
